Expanding the Green List
The Green List is a coveted collection of occupations that offer a fast track to residence or provide access to a work-to-residence pathway. It includes a diverse range of professions, from healthcare workers to engineers and ICT specialists. In a recent update, New Zealand has added 17 new roles to the Green List. Notable additions include Aviation Engineer (Avionics, Aeronautical, Aerospace Engineer), Naval Architect (Marine Designer), Mechanical Engineering Technician, and ICT Database and System Administrator, among others. These roles will become eligible for the Green List from March 2024.

Work to Residence Pathway
Starting from September 29, 2023, the Green List and Sector Agreement Work to Residence pathways will be open for applications. Migrants with at least two years of eligible work experience in a Green List Work to Residence or eligible Sector Agreement role can apply for residence status, provided they meet additional criteria related to age, health, character, and English language proficiency.
Boosting the Recognised Seasonal Employer Scheme
Recognising the need for a larger workforce in the horticulture and wine sectors, New Zealand is increasing the cap for the Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) scheme to 19,500 workers for the 2023/2024 season. This increment of 500 workers from the previous year will help meet industry demands and provide employment opportunities for workers from participating Pacific countries.
Closure of the Recovery Visa
Effective from September 23, 2023, the Recovery Visa will no longer accept new applications. However, existing visa holders in New Zealand have the option to apply for a 3-month extension to their Recovery Visa, allowing them the necessary time to transition to longer-term work visas if required. Immigration New Zealand will notify eligible visa holders and guide them through the extension process.
Expansion of the Construction and Infrastructure Sector Agreement
In a bid to bolster the construction and infrastructure sectors, New Zealand is including additional roles in the Construction and Infrastructure Sector Agreement. These roles encompass positions like Driller’s Assistant, Earthmoving Labourer, and Earthmoving Plant Operator, among others.
