Quebec Limits Family Sponsorship Applications Until June 2026
Quebec has set a limit on family sponsorship applications until June 25, 2026, capping at 13,000 applications. Here’s how it’s allocated:
- 10,400 applications for spouses, common-law partners, and dependent children aged 18 and above.
- 2,600 applications for fathers, mothers, grandparents, or other eligible relatives.
Once this cap is reached, no more applications will be accepted until the period ends.

The cap does not apply to:

- A sponsor’s dependent minor child.
- Minor children the sponsor wishes to adopt.

To qualify for these exemptions, the person being sponsored must not be married or in a common-law relationship.
Additional Information
- The cap doesn’t restrict adding dependents to an already submitted or approved application.
- Quebec will announce when the cap is reached and will return any non-exempt applications received thereafter without processing or charging a fee.
- The province has linked its housing crisis to the influx of temporary residents.
This policy aims to manage the number of family sponsorship applications effectively while addressing housing concerns in Quebec.
