Canada Expands Online Application Status Tracking for Express Entry Candidates
Canada has recently expanded its online application status tracking services to four new categories in the Express Entry system, enabling candidates to monitor their applications and stay informed on updates. The new status tracking services will apply to Express Entry candidates in the Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
Express Entry Application
To check the status of your Express Entry application, you have 60 days after being invited to apply for permanent residence to submit your application. After submitting your application, you can check its status by logging into your account and going to the “View the applications you submitted” section. Then, click on “Application status and messages” to see the overall status of your application, the current status of each application step, and any messages with additional steps to take if required. If you need to make any updates to your account, you will receive an email notification. Ensure that you complete any requested updates as soon as possible to avoid delays in processing your application.

Canadian Permanent Residence
Launched in May 2021 for citizenship applications, the online application status tracker was later expanded to include spouse, partner, and dependent child sponsorship immigration categories in February 2022. The Express Entry system is Canada’s most popular immigration system for Canadian permanent residence, introduced by the federal government in January 2015 to replace the old “first come, first served” process.
Canada has been experiencing a high backlog of immigration applications, with the number of applicants in inventory reaching over 2.1 million as of January 31. The most recent data shows that 47,868 applicants for Express Entry programs and 66,214 for PNPs are currently in queue. To address the backlog, the IRCC has been taking steps to improve the speed at which applications are processed and aims to reduce the backlog to less than 50 percent across all lines of immigration.
In 2022, Canada welcomed a historic number of newcomers, with 431,645 new permanent residents. The country aims to welcome 500,000 people each year by 2025 as it addresses a critical labor shortage.
