UK to Launch Digital Immigration System with eVisas by 2025
The United Kingdom is progressing toward a “digital by default” immigration system, set to be fully implemented by 2025. This will include the introduction of eVisas, aimed at enhancing security and convenience for travelers. The eVisa will eliminate the need for physical documents after visa decisions are made, although its launch date for Indian applicants remains uncertain.
UK Visas
India continues to top the list of recipients for UK visas across visit, study, and work categories. British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, highlighted that Indian nationals were the largest group granted UK visas in the year ending June 2024, demonstrating a sustained demand post-COVID-19.

To expedite visa processing for Indian applicants, biometrics will now be collected before document scanning at VFS UK visa application centers for non-digital customers. The fees for UK visas range from ₹13,308 for a six-month visa to over ₹1.1 lakh for a 10-year visa. An additional GBP 500 can be paid for priority processing, ensuring decisions within five working days.
Visa Fee Policies
The UK applies uniform visa fees globally to balance the cost of processing with public service sustainability. This approach ensures minimal financial impact on UK taxpayers while delivering a satisfactory experience for applicants.
Enhanced Security and Fraud Awareness
Matt Heath, Deputy Director of Visits & ETA Network at UK Visas and Immigration, emphasized the UK’s commitment to a secure and efficient visa process. He also urged applicants to be cautious of fraud, noting that UKVI does not communicate via social media, request payments through personal accounts, or guarantee visas in exchange for money.

Efficient Visa Processing for Indian Nationals
In the year ending June 2024, the UK processed nearly one million visa applications for Indian nationals. Over the past two years, UKVI has met its customer service standards, processing standard applications within 15 working days, priority applications within five days, and super-priority applications in just one day.
VFS UK visa centers have also maintained high efficiency, offering biometric appointments within five working days, with current wait times as short as 1-2 days. Appointments remain uncapped, providing flexibility and convenience to all applicants.
