The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted its fifteenth Express Entry draw of 2023, issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to 4,300 candidates in an all-program draw. To be eligible for this draw, candidates needed to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 486.

In an effort to expand the selection criteria, IRCC announced the introduction of six new categories, which include healthcare, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions, trades, transport, agriculture and agri-food, and strong French speaking abilities. Express Entry candidates who possess the required work or language experience within these categories will receive ITAs in the upcoming draws.
Healthcare occupations constitute almost half of the eligible occupations for category-based selection, followed by STEM occupations. Candidates must also be in the Express Entry pool to be considered for an ITA, and those with higher CRS scores have a greater chance of receiving an invitation.
The selection of these categories was based on consultations with provinces, territories, and stakeholders, and their success will be reported to parliament. It is important to note that categories can change from year to year.

Express Entry is a system that manages applications for three prominent economic immigration programs in Canada:
- The Federal Skilled Worker Program,
- The Canadian Experience Class, and
- The Federal Skilled Trades Program.
Eligible candidates create profiles and receive scores through the Comprehensive Ranking System. The highest-scoring candidates are more likely to receive ITAs, and upon receiving an ITA, they must submit their final applications for permanent residency within 60 days for review by IRCC.
