UAE Introduces 10-Year Blue Residency Visa for Environmental Efforts
The United Arab Emirates has introduced a 10-year Blue Residency visa for individuals who have made exceptional contributions to environmental protection, both marine and terrestrial. This initiative was announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, who declared 2024 as the year of sustainability. The Blue Residency visa is designed to honor those who have significantly contributed to environmental sustainability, air quality improvement, modern sustainability technologies, and the circular economy.

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the connection between economic sustainability and environmental sustainability, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to clear and consistent national directions in these areas. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security, and relevant authorities can also nominate candidates for this long-term residency.
Standard Residency Visas
This new visa complements the UAE’s existing residency programs. Standard residency visas in the UAE are usually valid for two years. In 2019, the UAE introduced the Golden Visas, offering a ten-year residency to investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, exceptional students and graduates, and humanitarian leaders. Later, the UAE launched the Green Visas, providing a five-year residency for skilled professionals, freelancers, investors, and entrepreneurs.
