Canada Express Entry Draw Inviting 5,956 Candidates To Apply For Canada PR
Canada held a new express entry draw on 31 May, inviting 5,956 candidates to apply for Canada PR. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited candidates with a score of at least 380. The new draw targets candidates who are eligible for permanent residency under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Candidates invited to be eligible for CEC have at least one year’s skilled work experience in Canada and intermediate official language skills, among other criteria.
Today’s draw was the third-highest Express Entry draw ever and the second-lowest Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) in 2021. Previous draw records were also set this year, with IRCC inviting 27,332 CEC candidates and 6,000 CECs in a draw in February. each candidate in two separate draws in April.
Compared to the CEC-only draw two weeks ago, Canada today invited 4,114 more candidates and the score required was 17 points lower. Three weeks ago, Canada also held a CEC draw, inviting candidates with at least 401 scores.
Canadian Candidates At The Top Of The Line
Canada has been giving priority to candidates who are likely to already reside in the country, since the beginning of the year. With the existing travel restrictions, candidates who have been cleared overseas cannot travel to complete their permanent residency landing. According to the Canadian government, it makes more sense to target domestic candidates.
According to IRCC May 6 data, around 95 percent of the CEC candidates at that time were in the express entry pool. The IRCC is holding the CEC draw every two weeks, except this three-week spring after a surprise draw on 20 May. Also, the Department of Immigration targets candidates for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) every two weeks.
Despite the epidemic, Canada is still accepting record-breaking numbers of new immigrants over the next three years. This year alone 108,500 new immigrants are expected to arrive through express entry-managed programs. So far, the IRCC has invited 74,773 express entry candidates to apply for permanent residence.
The big numbers come from the historic draw of February 13 where IRCC invited each CEC-eligible candidate to a pool, a total of 27,332 people. In this draw alone, 23,877 invited candidates filled in applications before the 90-day deadline, IRCC told CIC News in an email.
The CRS requirements for PNP-only and CEC-only draws differ significantly. This is because PNP candidates automatically get an additional 600 marks towards their overall score. CEC candidates are not competing for invitations to other events. As a result, the IRCC takes more than the top to allow the cutoff score to be reduced. In the last CEC-only draw, the CRS requirement was reduced to 397.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is a point-based expression of interest system. It manages applications for three federal highly skilled programs, including Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Business Program. Some PNPs also use Express Entry to invite candidates to apply for provincial enrollment.

Tara submitted an express entry profile earlier this month. His CRS score of 433 would have been enough to get an ITA during the new Express Entry draw.
