Nova Scotia Immigration: Job Opportunities For Healthcare Sector

In a bid to boost its labor force and meet the growing demand for healthcare professionals, Nova Scotia is making significant changes to its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). This expansion, particularly within the “International Graduates in Demand” (IGD) stream, is set to open doors for foreign nationals, including international students aspiring to become paramedics and pharmacy technicians. Let’s delve into the details of this promising development.

The IGD stream, an integral part of Nova Scotia’s PNP, previously catered to occupations like nurse aides, early childhood educators, and assistants. However, the recent announcement has broadened its scope to include paramedics and pharmacy technicians. This expansion reflects the province’s recognition of the pressing need for professionals in these crucial healthcare roles.

Eligibility Criteria for Aspiring Immigrants

To qualify for immigration through the IGD PNP stream, candidates must meet specific requirements:

  • Full-Time Job Offer: Possess a full-time permanent job offer from a Nova Scotia employer in an eligible occupation.
  • Age Requirement: Be between the ages of 21 and 55.
  • Educational Qualifications: Have completed at least a high school education.
  • Course of Study: Have completed a course of study lasting at least 30 weeks within the last three years.
  • Certifications: Possess the necessary certifications required for the job.
  • Language Proficiency: Demonstrate official language proficiency equivalent to a level 5 on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB).
  • Financial Stability: Have sufficient financial resources to establish permanent residence in Nova Scotia.

Application Process Simplified

Aspiring immigrants can follow these basic steps to apply for immigration through the IGD stream:

  • Document Submission: Upload the required documents and complete the application on the government website.
  • Permanent Residency Application: If approved, apply for permanent residency directly with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) within six months of receiving the provincial nomination certificate.
  • Temporary Work Permit: Applicants can request a Letter of Support for a temporary work permit from the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration (NSOI), allowing them to stay in Nova Scotia while their application is processed.

Growing Demand for Paramedics and Pharmacy Technicians

Nova Scotia’s healthcare sector is experiencing a surge in demand for paramedics and pharmacy technicians. The province anticipates a need for approximately 200 pharmacy technicians in the coming years. Additionally, there could be up to 200 paramedic positions available for international students. These opportunities highlight the importance of these roles in Nova Scotia’s healthcare landscape.

Beyond the IGD stream expansion, healthcare occupations continue to be in high demand across Canada, making it an attractive destination for individuals seeking a career in the healthcare sector.

Nova Scotia’s proactive approach to immigration underscores its commitment to addressing labor market gaps and creating opportunities for skilled professionals. As the province continues to grow and diversify its workforce, international students aspiring to pursue careers as paramedics or pharmacy technicians have a promising path to call Nova Scotia home.
